The Dining Class: Cooking (or not) on Vacation

August 24, 2011

Whether you participate in the prep work or not, private chefs from The Quintess Collection are ready to cook for you, as well as get you into the kitchen for unique culinary classes and cooking experiences to match your vacation.

Most of our personal chefs are creative people with multiple talents, so your experience will always be unique. Here are a few highly rated suggestions to whet your appetite as you plan for exceptional food adventures in your home-away-from-home.

1. Maui: Fresh and Fabulous

Award winning personal chef, Allain DeLeon of Got Chef Maui, specializes in meal preparation and intimate dining. His most popular menu starts with “honey splashed Ahi tartare with Hawaiian chile aiole and local avocado on a flash-fried wonton.” This is followed by “citrus shrimp on upcountry local mixed greens salad with a homemade papaya dressing” and the main dish of “duo of local braised beef and fresh fish with garlic mashed potatoes and stir fry veggies and cherry demi-glace and tomato basil sauce.” Since fish is caught the same day, Chef DeLeon chooses the fish the morning of your dinner for prime quality. What creation could end such a feast? An individual dessert platter with “chocolate lava and pineapple crème brulee and torched vanilla ice cream.” Fantastic!

2. South Beach: Celebrity Chefs meet Harmonious Organics to Delight all Ages

Celebrity Chef, Leslie Jovanovic of La Perfect Bite is a favorite with Quintess families as well as royalty, Bruce Springsteen and Usher. Chef Leslie is known for her artistic talents and French accent as well as her beautiful meals with special touches, baking, catering, cooking classes for children and even fantastic crepes.

If you are a slow food movement foodie, South Florida’s Paradise Farms Organic’s artisanal “Dinner in Paradise,” prepared by the area’s top chefs might be for you. Located on a beautiful five-acre organic tropical farm, dinner is served right on the land where the finest quality greens, micro-greens, herbs, edible flowers, mushrooms, fruits and vegetables go from garden to kitchen to table.

Finally, Rakkasan Chef, Shawn Eric Fralin is a combat soldier (with the 101st Airborne Division) turned culinary warrior. Known as the “Spiritual-Visionary Chef,” he creates harmonious meals specifically designed to nourish the mind, body and soul of each individual client. Previous clients include Janet Jackson, Naomi, Jessica Simpson, Usher and more. Rakkasan Chef’s warm personality and military attention to detail permeate cooking classes, pre-made meals, comic book Super Hero/Sci-Fi menus, and Mini-Chef classes to result in dynamic cuisine layered with complexities and unparalleled raw beauty. Try it out!

3. London: World Class City of Hip Master Chefs and Eating Adventures

The gastronomic opportunities in London are vast, and in October, the London Restaurant Festival serves up a citywide celebration of local dining and chefs. Find extraordinary events and delicious menus across this city during a festival that hosts the most exclusive “Pop-Up In The Sky” restaurant with the world’s first six Michelin star dinner. This meal will be served on the London Eye, where a capsule will be transformed into a ten-seat restaurant, with each course prepared by a master chef. There’s even more to taste on the ground though, from traveling gourmet dining to culinary debates, a Scotch Egg Trail to a foodie quiz, and don’t forget the Eat Film festival.

If you’re searching for the hippest food experience, local host Ronan is in the know on where to find things. He also suggests small martini master classes at the Duke’s Hotel Bar where Ian Fleming reportedly coined the phrase “shaken, not stirred.” Learn from the hotel’s famous barman Alessandro Palazzi and you’ll develop skills to amaze your own gatherings!

Then about 1.5 hours from London (near Oxford), cookery enthusiasts can also learn from master chefs in the kitchens of Raymond Blanc’s famed, Michelin-starred Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons restaurant, which offers excellent residential courses.

As you can see, whether you choose to sit back and enjoy the skills of experts, or prefer to get into the action, master chefs and cooks will make your vacation exceptional. Personal chefs are available in many other Quintess locations including Tuscany, Cabo and Amelia Island (where your chef will also serenade you with opera arias).

Don’t miss the enthusiasm, fun and luxury of your chef experiences from surprising a loved one, or celebrating a special anniversary, to enjoying nutritious meals, savoring a local delicacy or learning from the best.

How has a cooking expert made your Quintess vacation memorable?
