The Destination
Bora Bora is one of the Leeward Islands within the French Polynesian archipelago. Created by volcanic activity, the island terrain supports tropical flora from breadfruit to coconut palms. The lagoon and barrier reef circle the remnants of an extinct volcano in the island’s center. Famous for snorkeling and scuba diving, you may even see different species of sharks and rays through the incandescent waters. It’s easy to understand how noted Post-Impressionist painter and artist Paul Gauguin was captivated by the South Pacific and turned out an exotic body of work, including his masterpiece, “Where Do We Come From,” while living out his life there.
