The Destination

Simply think of the French Riviera and you start to taste the enormous piles of seafood on café tables. Savor an ice cold Blanc-de-Blanc under a white umbrella. Cannes exudes sophistication and enchantment. Formerly a tiny fishing village, it was transformed by celebrities such as the Aga Khan, the Baron de Rothschild, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in the early part of the last century. Oh, and a certain film festival. And it has welcomed crowned princes and movie stars, the wealthy and the beautiful, ever since. Located on France’s Cote d’Azur, a journey of only a few minutes brings you into the wild hills of Provence with the scent of pine, eucalyptus and wild herbs in the air. Soak up the sophistication of Juan-les-Pins, Cap d’Antibes or Monaco on the coast, or venture further up into the pristine snows of the French Alps. Perhaps that’s the secret of Cannes’ success (and the recipe for a great holiday): its endless talent for surprise and reinvention. Cannes is like no other place on earth.

Activities in Cannes, France

Known for its world-class shopping you’ll find designer boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Missoni, Kenzo, Omega, Siegl 1880 and many more. Continuing west is the Vieux Port and then a small hill on which the old town known as Le Suquet is situated. The main tourist season for Cannes is from May to October. Unlike Nice, Cannes has many sandy beaches, with many private beaches lining La Croisette. Just off the coast lies the Lerin Islands, which are reached by a 15 minute boat ride from the Vieux Port. These consist of two islands: one contains an abbey and the other an old fort. Cannes is most famous for its self-named film festival.
