The Destination

In the heart of northern Italy, Lake Garda is the region’s largest lake. Peer out from its shorts to its clear blue waters. This area affords myriad choices from day trips to the cradles of culture in Venice, Milan or Bologna to an evening at perhaps the world’s most spectacular opera in the Coliseum in Verona. The unique microclimate from the cool mountain air nearby Alps coupled with the warm summer sun make the Olive Riviera one of Europe’s culinary hotspots with a cuisine all of its own. After a long lunch accompanied by a vintage bardolino, hop on the lake’s ferry to explore its many beauties such as Sirmione, “the pearl of Garda” or try your skills with a rod to land one of the fierce zander that lurk below the crystal waters or simply relax and breath in the clear fresh air.

Activities in Lake Garda, Italy

Lake Garda has many attractions for tourists, a mild climate and beautiful varied scenery. Manmade attractions are constantly being developed. There are a number of amusement parks and sporting grounds, and during the winter there is plenty of good skiing only a short distance away. Regular breezes from the north provide ideal conditions for wind and water sports, including paragliding, windsurfing, sailing, yachting and fishing. The nearby hills and Monte Baldo are perfect for mountain biking, trekking and horseback riding. The Olive Riviera is also a gastronomically rich region thanks to the wines and extra virgin olive oil, fish from the lake and many seasonal products locally grown. Although Lake Garda may seem far away from the hustle and bustle of city life, it is only a short distance away from Italy’s big northern cities such as Milan and Verona.
