The Destination
Golf is a clear focus here in Sotogrande, with no less than five world-class courses playable 365 days a year. But when a trial separation from your beloved clubs is required, the other activity options are endless too. Visit a pueblo blanco in the mountains where a honeycomb of narrow alleyways is sliced by diagonals of hot, white sunlight. Explore the Sierra de Las Nieves natural park where you might see an eagle swoop over the pine, walnut and olive trees. Or admire the typically Andalucian architecture of Granada or Cordoba where Arab ingenuity met European spirit. Watch a few chukkas at the Rio grounds among the international in-crowd. Windsurf at Tarifa. Ski in the Sierra Nevada. Walk by the sea on one of the many beaches that adorn the Mediterranean coast. As evening falls, visit the Plaza de Los Naranjos in old Marbella — its whitewashed houses echoing to the sounds of flamenco. Try your hand at the tables in the casino at Puerto Banus. Or simply relax with friends over a barbecue around the pool at your home. Located in the best large resort neighborhood in southern Spain, the area is very well known internationally and was the host area for the Ryder Cup.
